WEEKEND KITCHEN

WE FOUND MORE RAMPS THAN EVER THIS YEAR. MORE THAN WE COULD ACTUALLY EVER HARVEST. ON A SOUTH SLOPE JUST DOWN FROM THE MOTHER LODE, I FOUND THIS GROUP WITH A ROSE STEM AND A SLIGHTLY BIGGER BULB. PERFECT FOR PICKLING.

ALLSPICE AND MUSCOVADO SUGAR GIVE THIS PICKLE A HINT OF SWEET
BLACK PEPPERCORN AND PEPERONCINI GIVE IT SOME HEAT
I USE THIS PICKLE MANY WAYS, FROM A CHARCUTERIE PLATE TO MARTINI GARNISH.
WORKS WELL SERVED SERVED WITH A SLICE OF VENISON PIE, LIKE THESE BELOW.
(GAME FREEZER CLEAN OUT CONTINUES.)

Ramps, what do they taste like? Garlic or Onion?
