TWEEDER

AFTER SEEING FINE EXAMPLES OF HARRIS TWEED FROM RRL AND FREEMAN'S, I WENT ON THE PROWL FOR SOME VINTAGE TO TAILOR AND RESHAPE TO CALL MY OWN. (OLAF'S STARTED IT ALL OFF WITH THE FIRST GOOD FIND.) I HAVE SINCE SEARCHED MY FAVORITE THRIFT AND CHURCH SHOPS AND DUG UP SOME BEAUTIES. ALL FOR ABOUT $10-$15 EACH. I BRING THEM TO RAMON ("TAILOR TO THE STARS") ON MOTT ST. FOR THE RE-WORKING. HE DOES AN AMAZING JOB.

How much work is a good tailor able to do? Modify size or just the basics? Thanks far any insight you can offer.

A GOOD TAILOR CAN REBUILD A WHOLE JACKET TO FIT. IT IS A MATTER OF COSTS REALLY. BUY CLOSE TO YOUR SIZE SO THE MOVES ARE AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE. SPECIFIC COSTS DEPEND ON YOUR TAILOR. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE GOOD TAILORING..

May I ask where you had the personalised label made?

Thanks,

TWO BIRDS HERE...
MY FAVORITE THRIFT SHOPS ARE SCATTERED AROUND UPSTATE NY.
THE LABELS WERE MADE BY A FAMILY FRIEND AS A FAVOR.
HOPE THIS HELPS...

See if there are any tack shops up there with a used/consignment section for the occasionally great second hand Hacking Jacket or a nice melton Hunt Coat.

Wow. A friend of mine was up at Harris Tweed (She's a Londoner living in Glasgow now) and photo-documented everything.. Gotta see if i can find her pics online somewhere, you'll love it.
