I THINK IT MAY BE THE WEATHER THAT MAKES ME WANT TO TUCK INTO A HEARTY LUNCH AND SOME AMBER BEERS. SO I MET MY BUDDY STEVE AT ONE THE BEST PLACES TO GET THAT FIX IN NYC,
MC SORLEY'S. ESTABLISHED IN 1854, MC SORLEY'S IS CERTAINLY NO NEW FIND (I HAVE BEEN GOING THERE FOR 20 YEARS) BUT, IT IS A BIT OFF THE RADAR FOR LUNCH, WHICH IS A SHAME. THEY SERVE A DELICIOUS (AND CHEAP ON ALL ACCOUNTS) SANDWICH, HOMEMADE SOUPS EVERYDAY, (THEY HAD VEGETABLE YESTERDAY. FILLED WITH POTATO, ZUCCHINI AND CHICKPEA IN A LIGHT TOMATO BASED BROTH, DELICIOUS!) DAILY SPECIALS LIKE SHEPHERD'S PIE AND THE OLD STANDARD, BURGERS AND FRIES. THE BEERS ARE THE OBVIOUS REASON TO GO THERE, SERVED IN PAIRS IN LIGHTS (AMBER) AND DARKS (STOUT). I ALWAYS TAKE A SEAT NEXT TO THE POT BELLY, COAL FIRED STOVE AND IMMEDIATELY ORDER "2 AND 2".

I so want liverwurst & onions on rye tomorrow with mustard. Hello local deli!
I need to weigh in with my approval for liverwurst on rye with onions and maybe a schmear of mayo. Add beer, pickle and joy. It's a lunch of champions.
That is a perfect lunch and probably a perfect day. That sandwich looks fantastic. A man after my own heart.
light or dark... what a spot. raining in texas today. i need a mcsorleys.
One of the best bars in NYC. Was there myself last Thursday. Always raise a glass to the picture of TR in the upper left corner of the bar. A true city classic.
Good lookin' joint. Nice pics.
I seem to remember some sort of drinking game that went on at McSorley's - I think they piled the glasses one on top of another and then drank them all at once...ah...good times!
