IT WAS A TYPO...BUT NICE SENTIMENT. I FIGURE THIS GUY IS EATING SOUP WITH SOME CURED HAM AND FILLING HIS GLASS OUT THE COMMUNAL BOTTLE OF WINE. THAT IS PROBABLY HIS OWN KNIFE ON THE TABLE AS WELL.

The old man is doing 'Chabrot' which is to put some wine into soup.
